Several regions of flooded savanna exist in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay, including the Pantanal, Beni savanna, Gurupa varzea, Parana flooded savanna and Southern Cone Mesopotamian savanna. Most of these areas have distinct flooded and dry periods, though the Gurupa varzea has a constant presence of water given its location along the mouth of the Amazon River. Vegetation composition within these areas varies according to the amount of flooding, soil type, elevation and fire regime.
