Grasslands are predominantly located in the north central portion of the Australian continent and the eastern side of New Zealand's South Island. Grasslands support native game hunted by the Aboriginal peoples who inhabited both countries for thousands of years and more recently the domestic grazing animals introduced by European colonists in the last few hundred years. Grasslands are an important biome for graziers (owners with large properties that graze sheep or cattle) and grazing remains the most widespread land use.
